OK, here's the deal: There's this guy named Tenchi Masaki. He's just your average, scrawny, everyday kind of high school student with an incredibly cool grandfather who lives in a shrine near a secret cave (I bet you can guess where this is going...). Being an incredibly curious (and none-too-bright) lad, Tenchi ventures into the cave and releases a demon who has been entrapped for some 700-odd years. After a desperate battle, our hero manages to subdue the monster and discover that she's (Did I mention the she part? Oh well...) an incredibly cool person. The Masaki house rapidly fills with other dependents: two marooned princesses from another planet, one incompetent (but incredibly funny) Galaxy Police officer, the most brilliant scientific genius in the galaxy, and an odd assortment of spaceships (some of which are sentient and have strange "hibernation" states). Sound weird? Well, get used to it. Tenchi Muyo! (literally, "No Need for Tenchi!") was created by Hiroki Hayashi and Masaki Kajishima as a parody of other works, like Gall Force and Bubblegum Crisis. As is readily evident from the plot, the story focuses on the characters and what they do in everyday life (with occasional opportunities to save the universe). In this episode, Tenchi and the gang are stuck with the job of babysitting Taro-chan. Unfortunately, Sasami, the only one with a shred of common sense, is pre-occupied with other things, (like the upcoming plot, just wait and see). It's a happy kind of anime, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. |
