Ever so slowly, Lodoss has revealed its secrets to us: we have borne witness to the shadows of Parn's legacy, the purpose of Ghim's tragic quest has been illuminated, and the story of the great heroes has been sung. Having been enlightened to these shrouded mysteries, one might believe that only a few remain. Perhaps the secret that weighs most heavily on the viewer's mind is simply, "Where is the war that was supposed to have been recorded?!" Fear not, true believers, the "War of Heroes" has begun in earnest. Before I get too far, let's recap so that we all remember what happened prior to fall break. Beld, the dark leader who is attempting total conquest of Lodoss, along with King Fahn, the majestic leader with the enormous beard, were revealed to be two of the great heroes who saved all of Lodoss in their youth. The two were at least companions, perhaps friends, both fighting for the good of the people, but now the two have differing goals: Fahn desires to unite Lodoss with peace treaties, while Beld wants to conquer all of it through means of his vast army. Neither warrior will back down, and one is destined to be destroyed in this episode. Episode seven is the pivotal point in the series. From here on out, we see the loss of many major characters, as well as the expansion of several others. Among Lodoss's strong points are its character backgrounds and creation, as well as its epic depiction of the actual wars from which it takes its name. Note: I said wars. That means more than one. Cool, huh? Tonight's episode leads quickly into several rapid-fire conflicts, so keep your eyes peeled for several hints of what's to come. From now on, the action is heavy-hitting and nonstop, so you won't get much chance while watching to figure out who insulted whom first. Though much has been revealed, there are quite a few twists and turns before we see the survivors of this new band of heroes through to their destiny. Which hero will win: Beld or Fahn? Will Lodoss be united, conquered, or destroyed? How will Ghim confront Leylia? Why is Leylia the Gray Witch? When will Parn finally reach his apex and become the great warrior who lurks in his dreams? What is the relationship between Ashram and Pirotess? And why isn't Ashram the star of the series? All of these questions (well... except for why the plot refuses to give Ashram his proper respect) will be answered, beginning tonight. Oh yeah, and Parn will "defend Lodoss with my life." |
