A lot has happened in the first twelve episodes of Lodoss. Leylia has been won back, Karla now inhabits Wood's body, Ghim has perished, Ashram is the new leader of the Marmo, and Wagnard has gained the neato ability to make his eyes glow. Just about the only thing that has remained constant is Parn's inevitable blind charge into battle. However, that is about to change. Oh, he isn't going to stop charging blindly into battle, but he is going to get a lot better, skillwise. Good thing too, since Deedlit and all of Lodoss need rescuing. I really enjoy Record of Lodoss War, even with its RPG stereotypes. Perhaps it is so attractive because it perpetuates every Dungeons & Dragons stereotype. I mean, I did quite a lot of gaming freshmen year in high school, and maybe the fact that I can finally see the figments of my imagination come to life on the screen makes it so magnetically pulling for me. The final episode of Lodoss continues the fine D&D tradition, complete with fighting dragons, sorcery, and gobs of swordplay. With the addition of the instrumental version of "Adesso e Fortuna" used as the closing (one of my favorite BGM tracks) and the one-time appearance of a beautiful vocal song, Lodoss comes to a close in a fitting and well-constructed manner. I certainly hope that you have enjoyed the series as much as I do. (Do keep your ears peeled for that song!) |
