Once again, it is time for Bart and Jae's Weekly Anime Drivel.
Jae:
And tonight, you're all in for a special treat, as we continue our
episode-by-episode coverage of CJAS's Ah! My Goddess-a-thon.
Bart:
This week's guest is a little rabbit-looking thing with eight legs that I
found hopping around in my room.
Jae:
Oh no, Bart! Tell me you didn't...
Bart:
Didn't what? It was cute, and, unlike our previous guests, it didn't cost
anything.
Thing:
...
Bart:
See? It's already doing just as good as Rei did.
Jae:
*Jae falls to the floor as the chair breaks apart under him.* Aw,
dammit. Bart, do you even know what that thing is? For all we know, it
could be a demon from the Dimension of Pain!
Bart:
Naaah, it's too cute for that. And you really gotta lay off those ramen
noodles, man. Look at what you did to your chair.
Jae:
That chair was defective! I'm telling you, there's something weird about
that rabbit. *Jae trips over the broken chair while he's getting up and
falls flat on his face.* Ow!
Bart:
...and while you're at it, maybe you should stop drinking as well.
Jae:
I've been sober all week! I swear!
Bart:
Riiiiiiight.
Jae:
Honest! Anyway, getting back to the series, the fourth OAV, Evergreen
Holy Night, starts quietly with the gang enjoying the first snowflakes
of winter.
Bart:
...when they suddenly look at the land surrounding the temple and notice
that their yard is the only place where it snowed.
Jae:
Well, they do live in Tokyo and it is summertime...
Bart:
At any rate, they discover that the weirdness is being caused by these nasty
little creatures called bugs, which look like rabbits with... *glancing
at the "special guest"*... Uh, Jae, is that what I think it is?
Jae:
What? *A light falls from the ceiling, nearly hitting Jae.* Geez, I
thought I told you to fix that thing! Sorry, what were you saying?
Thing:
...
Bart:
Would you be so kind as to get me my Giant Mallet?
Jae:
No, you can fix it later, come on. We're in the middle of an article here.
Bart:
Jae, take a good look at our special guest, and tell me what you see.
Jae:
So what, it's a rabbit with eight legs. It's nothing stranger than
Ryo-oh-ki. And after all, you did say it didn't cost us anything, right?
Since it's already here, I say we let it stay. It's not like it causes
disasters or anything. *Another light falls and Jae dodges.* I
swear, they gave us the cheapest room in this dump! The whole place is
falling apart!
Bart:
*shrug* Alright. It's your funeral.
Jae:
So what were you saying about the weirdness? I was too busy hearing the
ceiling groan to notice.
Bart:
Well, they find out that the weirdness is being cause by these little
creatures called Bugs, which look remarkably like our special guest.
Thing:
...
Jae:
You're not trying to tell me that... *The ceiling creaks ominously and a
shower dust sprinkles down.* Oh hell... On second thought, why don't
you be a pal and get that Mallet of yours...
Bart:
*reaching into his backpack and producing a very big mallet*
*BONK* That should do it.
Jae:
Alright! You nailed that sucker! Unfortunately, the Bug problem doesn't go
away as easily for our heroes, and things get pretty serious.
Bart:
Yup. Episode four is in my opinion the most suspenseful of the whole OVA
series.
Jae:
I don't know about that. Episode five gets pretty intense, but then again,
it's the continuation of episode four's story.
Bart:
Either way... four ends on a heck of a cliffhanger. In fact, I'd go so far
as to say that it's really a big change in mood from the previous episodes.
Jae:
And what a cliffhanger. The bad thing about that is that five won't be
shown until the marathon. The good thing, however, is that that's in two
weeks, and it'll actually be in its regular time slot. As for the mood, well
unlike its predecessors, all of the main characters have already been
introduced. (well, most of them, at any rate)
Bart:
Well, that and the overall air of the episode. For the first time, you
really start to wonder if things will actually work out for Keiichi and
Belldandy.
Jae:
If you're wondering that already, just wait until the marathon. Now
that OAV is intense.
Bart:
...and the music rules.
Jae:
Yeah, it does. Now since we don't want to completely spoil the OVA for you,
I just have one last question. When God makes a phone call, does he have to
pay international rates?
Bart:
Only when he's calling other dimensions.
