Ah... the questions of true love. Well, what is true love? How does one know which feelings are real and which are not? Hm... Well, everyone has his or her own answers. Tenchi Forever!, whose Japanese title is Tenchi Muyo in Love 2, is the third Tenchi Muyo! movie. If you've seen any of the Tenchi Muyo! OAVs, TV series, or movies, and/or you've read the manga, you'll be familiar with all of the characters. This time, we start out with Ayeka and Ryoko bickering at each other again, and as usual, they try to drag Tenchi into the middle of their arguments. And as usual, Tenchi doesn't take sides. In order to get away from these troublesome women, he walks into the woods, where he finds a spirit in a tree beckoning for him. And then Tenchi disappears. The next thing you know, it's been six months and everyone's out looking for him. Ryoko and Ayeka go all over Japan looking for him, Washu sits at her computer to search, Sasami goes to Jurai to try and find out more information about his whereabouts, and Kiyone and Mihoshi are at the Science Academy (Washu made them fake IDs) searching the main computer. So, all these women are looking for this one guy. When Ryoko and Ayeka finally find him in a town, Tenchi looks several years older and lives with this woman named Haruna. Tenchi does not remember his past at all. So the big questions are: Who is Haruna? Why is Tenchi with her? What are Haruna's intentions? I'm a big fan of Tenchi Muyo! It's funny. It's about love. It's good. It's very good. This movie is special in that many of the characters wear modern clothing. Ryoko and Ayeka have jobs as waitresses, and it's cool for me to see Ryoko in street clothes. Everyone is more grown-up, and the characters are drawn with a slightly different but refreshing change. I hope you all enjoy the movie. But wait for the ending credits, and pay close attention to the screen, because there are scenes you might want to watch (even though they don't really pertain to the plot of the movie). I can't be sure about what those scenes imply (they may not imply anything at all), but I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Tidbit: Negishi Hiroshi, who directed this movie, also directed Tenchi Muyo in Love (the first Tenchi movie), and the first Tenchi TV series. |
