Are you a Ruri fanboy? Come on now. Admit it. You love it whenever she randomly pops onto the screen saying, "Baka." Well, Nadesico: Prince of Darkness is a Ruri fanboy's dream come true. The movie takes place three years after the television series ended. Since the end of the TV series, much has happened. The inhabitants of Jupiter (formerly known as the Jovian Lizards) have negotiated a cease-fire agreement with United Earth. The once powerful company, Nergal, is now weak after attacks from rival companies. Akito and Yurika are married now, but the shuttle exploded on their honeymoon and there were no survivors found. Ines has also died in a plane accident. Bummer. What about Ruri? Well, Akito and Yurika are now her guardians (when they were alive anyway). Ruri is in command of the Nadesico B and its own crew, and this one is just as wacky as the original bunch. Now for the plot. Many colonies have been built under a project in which the Tulips are placed around the solar system to allow ships to Boson Jump (for those Trekkies out there, the Tulips are like wormholes, except that aliens don't live in them). Recently, mysterious attackers have destroyed several of these colonies, and it's up to Ruri and the crew of the Nadesico B to find out what's happening. Fans of the original TV series will be able to see all of the characters that you've grown to love over those twenty-six episodes. Comedy is still present in this movie, but it's less random and does not get in the way of understanding the plot. It will still take a while for you to really understand what's going on in the movie, though. On a final note, for the Gekiganger fans out there -- sorry, but since there is a cease-fire with the Jovian Lizards, you won't see any Gekiganger-type mecha or costumes. This is Ruri's movie. Anyway, Gekiganger already had its own special. |
