1999, the destined day. The day when the fate of the world would be decided by the actions of one man, Kamui Shiro. Born to play a key role in the fate of Earth, Kamui himself just wants to protect the people he loves. As a child, he used to live in Tokyo with his mother and had two very close friends: Fuma and Kotori Monou. The three of them were inseparable, and Kamui swore to protect Kotori as long as he lived. Hearing this, Fuma too promised Kamui: "If you protect Kotori, then I will protect you always." The death of Fuma's mother caused Kamui's mother to leave Tokyo with him, saying that it had somehow been their presence that had triggered the death. "Become stronger, Kamui, so that you can save the people you love with the power you have inside you." Fateful words. Fateful words and the promise made years ago finally brought Kamui back to Tokyo in 1999 to decide the fate of the world. Only two people had any inkling of what the future would hold: Kanoe and her elder sister, Hinoto. Both of them were dreamseers born with the ability to predict the possible futures in their dreams. Hinoto did so for politicians, foretelling the future for their benefit. Both sisters had their own purposes, their own ideas of what the future should hold. And, to ensure that the future held what they wanted, each began to gather around her seven dragons. Affiliated either with Earth or with Heaven, the dragons were people possessing extraordinary powers. The Dragons of Heaven had the ability to build kekkais: fields of power that would engulf a certain area and transport it to another dimension. Damage done to that region in the other dimension would not be mirrored in the real dimension unless the person who created the kekkai died. The kekkai would then crumble, and all damage would manifest itself in the real dimension. The kekkais created by the Dragons of Heaven were also seals; seals that held the world together. So if the Dragons of Heaven were to all die, the seven seals of the world would be broken and the Earth would fall to pieces. Kanoe gathered around her the Red Dragons of Earth, and Hinoto gathered the Green Dragons of Heaven. Each found six, with the seventh yet to step on the paths that fate had chosen, the paths that would lead them to a struggle to decide the fate of the world. The Seven Seals... The Dragons of Heaven Sorata Arisugawa: Taken away from his parents at the age of 3, he was raised by the famous "Stargazer of Kouya" to be one of the seven destined to protect the Earth. Since his youth, it was fortold that he would die for the woman he loves; since he is to die anyways, Sorata prefers to die for a beautiful woman. His power comes from lightning. The kekkai he creates is in the form of a cube. Seiichiro Aoki: A gentle family man working as an editor in a publishing company, Seiichiro wishes to protect Tokyo for the sake of his wife and children. His power comes from the wind. Subaru Sumeragi: A person, not a car. From one of CLAMP's other series, Tokyo Babylon, Subaru has a long history with Seishiro Sakurazuka of the Dragons of Earth. Because of an incident between them in his past, he has become silent and serious. He does not care for the future of the Earth, but lives for the chance to kill Sakurazuka. His kekkai has the form of a pentagram. Arashi Kishu: The Kakashi Miko, protector of the Ise Shrine, Arashi's power comes from a sword sheathed inside her arm. When called forth, the sword emerges out of her palm (slightly gory). She is the one Sorata has chosen to give his life for. Her kekkai is in the form of a pyramid. Yuzuriha Nekoi: A lively 14-year-old from the Mitsume Shrine, her power comes from the spirit of the wolf, called an "Inugami" (dog spirit). Her Inugami's name is Inuki, or "demon dog." Yuzuriha's one wish in life is to fall in love before she dies. Her kekkei takes the form of a cylinder. Karen Kasumi: A beautiful woman often clad in lingerie, she has an odd job at a "soapland" (I won't go into details) called "Flower." Her power comes from fire. The Seven Angels... The Dragons of Earth Nataku: Nataku is the ultimate genetic experiment gone awry. A scientist once wished to bring his late granddaughter back to life by making a clone of her, but he failed. The clone was greatly flawed -- it turned out to be male (oops). A soulless vessel who takes the form of a human being, Nataku kills with a long flowing ribbon of cloth. Seishiro Sakurazuka: Bad blood runs between Seishiro and Subaru Sumeragi of the Dragons of Heaven. Like Subaru, he is also from Tokyo Babylon. An assassin, his illusionary powers are associated with sakura petals. Kusanagi Shiyuu: Kusanagi's able to use the "ki" in his body to fight with his bare hands. Kusanagi, according to Shinto myths, is the sword which belongs to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Yuuto Kigai: Gathers his supernatural power at Kanoe's base. Works as a civil servent. He seems gentle but is really a cold-blooded killer. Satsuki Yatouji: The expert on computers with the stereotypical "CS nerd" appearance. She has a powerful machine called "Beast" with which she can merge to manipulate it. Satsuki helps obtain information for Kanoe and uses her computer to cause havoc in Tokyo. Shougo Asagi: A "water master." Created just for the movie, he replaces Kakyou from the manga. |
