[to be read after tonight's episodes (70 and 71)] Yuu didn't even see it coming. "I'm sorry. You're in pain. I didn't know..." That's all he could say. Most of the pain he doesn't even know about. Miki never tells him about Kei or Michael. He also doesn't know what Jinny did. Eventually, he'll find out all about it. Jinny will tell him. Michael will tell him. Even Kei will tell Yuu about what's been going on. Or at least, he'll be able to put the pieces together. The first time I saw these episodes, the breakup took me completely by surprise. After all, this is a romantic comedy, right? Other characters are supposed to try to chip away at the relationship, but they aren't supposed to succeed, are they? This time, I guess the answer is yes. Karen Duffy, who translated the series for Tomodachi Anime, had this to say: I personally tried to figure out when Miki decided to break off with Yuu. But I noticed something interesting. Even to the point where she's outside of the dorm begging Yuu to come to her to give her a last chance to save they're feelings for each other. She hasn't decided to break off with him. Instead she says that if she leaves that area, her feelings were going to come away from him too. It didn't sound like a conscious decision but that something would happen to her feelings whether she wanted it to happen or not (Of course, she has to leave because he's not there.). What I really liked about these episodes was the way Miki's feelings were explained. The "sound of breaking glass" was a good description for how she loses her feelings for Yuu. It goes well with the emotionally violent ways in which people have been trying to break these two up all throughout the series. I noticed that Miki and Yuu never made attempts to repair the damage others (Arimi, Suzu, Kei, and Michael) did to their relationship. They just moved on as if nothing happened. Looking back, it's no surprise that the walls around their relationship finally crumbled. Last article, I hinted that Miki was the kind of girl who suppressed her pain and just let others walk all over her. That would explain why she was "exhausted" from trying to maintain the long-distance relationship. Other fans wrote that Miki seemed to suddenly grow up over these past few episodes. In my opinion, one problem with this series is that she never grows up at all. As for these next few episodes, we'll see Yuu scramble to put the relationship back together. He has the auto-dialer and the UFO recorder in his possession, and even though he doesn't know it, he still has Ginta and Miwa to support him. Trust me. This one's not over yet. So stay and watch, whether it's your first time seeing the series or if you've seen them before. Me, I'll just dance in the sweet memories... -- Wait. We showed that last week. See ya at the showing. |
