I am a social scientist specializing in user research, online communities, and otaku studies. I received my PhD in Science and Technology Studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2006. My doctoral research examined the ways in which anime otaku and related subcultures engage and appropriate science and technology. Between 2006 and 2011, I worked for Opera Software. I am currently a Product Owner at ServiceNow. I live with my wife (Carol Kim) and kids in San Diego, CA.

Why "Lawmune"?
'Lawmune' (lah-moo-nay) is an internet nickname that I have used since 1997. 'Lawmune' is a play on 'Lamune', an anime (Japanese animation) character that I happen to like a lot from a show called NG Knight Lamune & 40. I like his determination, fun-loving attitude, and carefree sense of humor.
