Only two companies left now: Bandai and Funimation.
The same thing is happening to manga: I think Tokyopop would be folding fairly soon (Kodansha just ended all their licenses with Tokyopop). Only Delray and Viz really left now.
ADV Films (the company that used to release anime) folded. But A.D. Vision still exists, and so does Sentai Filmworks (which has been their company to release the stuff recently). So I assume this could be just a corporate restructuring/shuffling.
The industry is really trending towards consolidating, and more direct involvement by Japanese parent companies

There are only two left?

Well, there is still Yen Press. They've bought up a few licenses that other companies dropped, so they may be one to watch.

I forgot about them in terms of manga. Don't they also have a monthly publication?Kathy Moon wrote:Well, there is still Yen Press. They've bought up a few licenses that other companies dropped, so they may be one to watch.

They do! It's pretty good, half Korean and half Japanese. They just started releasing Black Butler there.

Well, on a positive note, ADV has no connection to this semester's showing, so that's a good thing. ^^
Honestly, if Funimation could just eat up and all the other companies and become the one license company to rule them all, that would make my job a lot easier. XD

Yeah, I like Funimation. Their PR guy's real friendly.

Um, Viz also does some anime (ex. Bleach, Naruto, Honey and Clover, Nana) and I think RightStuf/Nozomi Entertainment released Gakuen Alice rather recently. I feel like there could be more small ones around (Manga Entertainment?), but yeah, those two are the main ones.W-General wrote:http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... -companies
