Guy likes girl, guy can't get girl, guy leaves home because of heartbreak..... sounds like your average sappy shoujo. But it's not! It's only how the first 15 minutes go. From there, it somehow warps into the insane series that chronicles the lives of the insane inhabitants of the insane all-male dorm we all know and love. It's Greenwood, and that is the best description there is for this bizarre series. Where else do you get an episode preview which is deliberately misleading, totally absurd, and tells you absolutely nothing about what's to come? Or see a play in which a medieval-era king gets a cut'n'paste ransom note, and then proceeds to advertise for a hero in a newspaper, and then actually finds one!? Where else but Greenwood can you see a gun-toting, child-molesting, man-hating, crazed sister like the one Shinobu (a.k.a. Cool Mint, a.k.a. Evil Lord Clorets) just happens to be blessed with? And where else but Greenwood would a cute ghost go if the only reason she can't find eternal rest is that she got flattened by a truck before she could fall in love and have a boyfriend? To quote one of the supreme authorities at CJAS, it's "hyper shoujo," and it keeps getting better and better until... The end? What?! Yes, tonight, CJAS presents to you the final two episodes of Koko wa Greenwood. This off-beat, hilarious, (and did I mention insane) series draws to a close as we bid farewell to our friends Hasukawa (a.k.a. Suka-chan), Mitsuru, Shinobu, and Shun. Episodes 5 and 6 relay what has been called "one of the most touching romances in anime," the tale of Suka-chan's second love. What will happen when a young woman, Iyarashi Miya, a friend of Mitsuru's, arrives at the asylum that is Greenwood? Will Suka-chan at long last find his happiness? Dunno. Never seen it myself. Why not watch and find out? So we've come to the end. No more lunatics living in a dorm, no more multicolored hair, no more absurd pranks, no more odd humor, NO MORE GREENWOOD! CJAS will never be the same... |
