3x3 Eyes is about the meeting between Pai, a Sanjiyan, and Yakumo, a normal human turned into a Wu, and how they begin their quest to find the Statue of Humanity that will make Pai a human. I could almost say that this series focuses more on Yakumo; the second series focuses more on Pai. The first series shows how Yakumo comes to terms with his new powers, adjusts to the loss of his normal, albeit still interesting, life in exchange for one filled with strife and violence and a beautiful girl with split personality. However, behind all the death and blood and gore in this series lies one of the most beautiful and most touching love stories I have ever seen. Gentle Pai, trying to fight her cruel other personality, and awkward Yakumo, who has no idea what he has gotten himself into. Their souls, bound together by a twist of fate, are trying, at first, to find a way to make Pai human, but slowly they are caught up in a darker plot to resurrect an ancient nemesis. Tonight, you will be watching the third episode of the first OAV series. In tonight's episode, the deeper plot is revealed. Kaiyan Wang, another Sanjiyan, was killed long ago, and his soul sealed away for what most hoped would be forever. So who is Kaiyan Wang anyway? Kaiyan Wang is, of all people, Pai's fiancé. Or rather, Pai's other personality, Parvati IV, was betrothed to the man, er, Sanjiyan, that Kaiyan Wang used to be. Shiva, the King of the Sanjiyan, consorted with dark powers, and was slowly transformed from a kind, benevolent King, into the vicious, cruel Kaiyan Wang. The Sanjiyan sealed away Kaiyan Wang into the heart of their land -- Seiichi. That battle cost the lives of all the Sanjiyan but one -- Parvati IV, who swore to destroy Kaiyan Wang if he was ever freed. However, his Wu, Benares, lived on in the physical world and spent centuries tracking down the key to his master's seal in order to break it, and resurrect Kaiyan Wang. Benares has had centuries to learn his powers, to exploit his immortality. He has hatched down countless plots and laid down a network of monsters to do his bidding. Yakumo, on the other hand, still has no clue what exactly a Wu is, and what one should be capable of. He is still having a hard time adjusting to this new, horrifying world that has suddenly opened up before him. However, unable to simply walk away, Yakumo must prevent the resurrection of Kaiyan Wang. How, he has absolutely no clue. Hopelessly outmatched, it seems that all Yakumo can do is to die trying. |
