In the twelve episodes of Slayers that we have already shown at CJAS this semester, we've been introduced to many amusing side characters. Some have become our favorite side characters from any series (Zolf! Noonsa!), but as the series progressed, they... well... sorta... died off. So let us take a look back at these characters because they won't be back ever again. Rodimus (First Appearance Episode 3: CRASH! Deceased Episode 9: IMPACT!) -- This baldy doesn't use magic, but he's a pretty skilled warrior. If we remember his first appearance in the series, he took a direct hit from a fireball and survived!!! Well, this old man was much tougher than he looked. Being 100% loyal to Zelgadis, except when Zel is possessed, Rodimus sided with Zelgadis when Zel turned "good." Rodimus was eventually toasted by the Dark Lord Shabranigdo along with Zolf, when he tried to save the foolish third-rate wizard from the oncoming doom. =( Dilgear (First Appearance Episode 4: DASH! Deceased Episode 7: GIVE UP!) -- It's the lovable old werewolf/troll sidekick of Zelgadis. Not a very bright fellow, he's the one who accidentally told Lina that they were looking for the Orihalcon statue. This guy takes a lot of abuse from his co-workers. After Lina was captured, Zolf was mangling Dilgear's face to show his fearsome fangs. Dilgear remained a "bad guy" after Zelgadis's defection, especially since his good buddy, Noonsa, was toasted into a delicious-looking morsel. (Chomp, chomp!) Later, when he confronted Zelgadis one last time, he was drilled with magic bullets by Zolf (Zolf!). He could only respond with "I'm gonna tell Rezo!" before he died. He's part troll, so who knows. He could come back. Noonsa (First Appearance Episode 5: ESCAPE! Deceased Episode 5: ESCAPE! Consumed Episode 6: FOCUS!) -- Muahahahahahah. Quite possibly, the coolest fish-man in all of anime. Now, is this really a "bad guy?" I mean, he was the only character in the series that I can remember who was genuinely attracted to Lina. So what if he was sucking on her head. As we have seen from Noonsa, he's got some strange combat tactics. His battering-ram attack while flailing his arms about wildly is classic. (Well, maybe not.) He can also shoot out those spiky things. He didn't hit anything, but that's not the point. =) After being toasted by Zelgadis, Noonsa will forever remain with us in our hearts... and stomachs. Mmmmm... Zolf (First Appearance Episode 2: BAD! Deceased Episode 9: IMPACT!) -- Woo hoo! Definitely the coolest third-rate mummy wizard in all of anime. So what if this guy mistook a Light spell for a Fireball. This is the master of torture. Zolf mangled Dilgear's face just to get Lina scared. He sent Noonsa after Lina, also. And when he started to throw insults at her when she was gagged, all I could say was "Now that's hitting below the belt." As we all know, Zolf was crushed (handily, I might add) by the Dark Lord. Oh well. =( As for the other minor characters in the series, um... well... I didn't feel like writing about them because they weren't cool enough or they didn't appear in the first 13 episodes. |
