That which was separated is united once more. The journey over sea and through forest has returned to its origin. The Millenial Anime Kingdom, the dominion of magic and the demesnes of fan service for centuries to come. Or at least, that's what they said in the tourist brochure. Shamanic Princess vs. Mahou Tsukai-tai! is a very unusual item. Not sold in stores, it was only available to those who had bought first pressing copies of all six Shamanic Princess and all six Mahou Tsukai-tai! discs and sent in their proofs of purchase before the deadline. It contains the epilogues to both series -- fitting, since they were conceived and inaugurated at the same time. In it, we get one more burst of humor, one more burst of pathos, and one more chance to savor the characters we've come to know and love over the semester. It appears that there will not be any more Shamanic Princess in the foreseeable future, but there is a Mahou Tsukai-Tai! TV series that is just starting in Japan right now. I don't know if it will be in the OVA chronology, but the staff and character designs are the same, so hopefully at least one of these two twin series will live on. I feel very privileged to be able to share this work with CJAS -- virtually no other groups of fans in the United States are likely to get this glimpse of the shows' creators' gratitude to their devoted fans. It is this "omake", sometimes more than the actual show, that displays exactly what the animators are really like. An extra something from fans to fans, as it were. |
