My Travel in Patan, Nepal (Pictures from 2002-03-27)

Actually, the present day city of Katmandu is made up of three smaller city-state from the past.  Patan, which specializes in metal works, also has its own Durbar Square and is no less impressive than the others.  As I visited there, the city was celebrating Holi, the new year according to Nepali calendar.   During Holi, one is paint their faces red and have a jolly good time by having water fights.  Boy, do those water balloons hurt.

Armed and Ready

See, my face is already painted red and I am ready for the water balloons that might come in any direction.

A Friend from Taiwan

I met Claudia in a trekking gear shop where I was getting my supplies for my upcoming trek to Everest. She is also from Taiwan and has just returned from a trek in Annapurna.

The new year doesn't officially began until this pole is raised in the center of Durbar Square. Pilgrims from all over come to pray for good lucks and give their thanks.
