My Travel in Yongoon, Myanmar (Pictures from 2002-01-31 to
2002-02-03)
Although many travel guides would recommend that you do not go to
Myanmar, I beg to differ. Yes, the government is an ass and those in
power should be sentenced to life-imprisonment for robbing a country of its
future, but the people of Myanmar are some of the most wonderful people that I
have come across thus far. Deeply religious, the people there are
friendly and warm. Though somewhat shy and definitely conservative,
they will do whatever they can to make you feel at home.
I never believed that isolation
would bring about changes - only people armed with new ideas and new beliefs
can bring about drastic changes to a society. So, go to Myanmar
and when you do, try to make that extra effort at getting to know the people
there. I am sure you will find the effort worth while. And who
knows, the ideas that you share with them may have consequences that are far
more reaching...
PS: In case you are wondering, the government does try to keep track of
where you go and any government controlled services are always "specially"
priced for foreigners.
