My Travel Around the WorldAs I surfed the channels last night feeling anxiety about my upcoming trip, I happened to come across the Travel Channel, which was airing a special on a British journalist's recent (prior to September 11, 2001) travel across Afghanistan. Breathtaking terrain, friendly locals (albeit the AK-47 wielding kind), and unexpected surprises awaited him at every turn. Is this the very adventure I seek? Is this why I feel such a strong urge to wander the world? Just what am I seeking? The question slowly took over my thoughts as I stay glued to the program. In the end the answer appeared not suddenly but instead emerged slowly like the first ray of the sun bursting through the morning fog: What I seek ... is the human soul.
Interaction with different people, customs and cultures. A deeper understanding of what makes this world so special. A sense of connection to my fellow men in this spaceship called Earth. That, my dear friends, is what I am looking to find as I set out on my trip. So, do wish me luck, my friends, as I seek to fulfill that void within me.
